GENERATION FOR CREATION SLATES TALENT SEARCH
FOR LOCAL YOUTH
Area Youth Invited to Audition for 6th Annual
Children’s Benefit Show;
GFC Auditions Also Held in McMinnville, Nashville & Shelbyville,
Director Says
(MURFREESBORO, Tenn.)—Representatives from Generation for Creation
Inc., a Murfreesboro-based nonprofit organization devoted to promoting
the arts among youth, will conduct local auditions for GFC’s annual
talent show Saturday, June 14, at the Boys and Girls Club, 820 Jones
Blvd.
Monica Shareé Johnson, founder and creative director for GFC,
said young people ages 7-17 will be allowed to first register, then
audition, on June 14 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to compete in the Sixth
Annual Children’s Benefit Talent Competition, which will be held
in Tucker Theatre on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University
in July.
Would-be participants may audition in the categories of drama, singing,
art, dance, modeling (male and female) and musical performance. Children
also are welcomed to audition in more than one category. Solo, duo and
group acts are also invited to audition.
Johnson said those who wish to audition for the singing or dance categories
must have a karaoke CD of their music at the time of the audition. Additionally,
she noted, “Lyrics must be G-rated for all musical and dance numbers
… (and) talent must bring performance attire and a photo to the
audition.”
GFC judges will be present at the June 14 audition in Murfreesboro.
Those competing in the July 26 talent event will vie for first-, second-
and third-place trophies in each category. One overall grand prize,
$500, will be awarded this year, Johnson said.
Columbia, Tenn., native Lynnette Cole, former Miss USA and the current
director for the Miss Southern Tennessee Pageant, will serve as the
mistress of ceremonies for this year’s GFC talent show.
An avid support of GFC and its mission to encourage and promote the
arts, Cole said, “Each year my spirit is renewed knowing that
Generation for Creation exists, giving children a place to encourage,
develop, create and express their talents. Sometimes we all need to
remember our dreams as a child and aspire to be everything we want to
be.”
